The Podcast

After six months in planning, the podcast is finally here! I have been wanting to set one up for a while. Podcasts have grown to be something I really love. Earlier this year I stumbled on the thought that rather than write The Book, that a podcast was probably a better platform for the idea.

I first started listening to podcasts during lock down. These days I have them on every morning while I am mucking out etc and doing yard chores. I listen to everything, the first one I ever listened to was the That Peter Crouch Podcast (I am not even remotely into football) and The Lockdown Parenting Hell with Josh Widdicomb and Rob Beckett (I am not a mum either!). Then I found the more horsey ones like The Olivier Towers Podcast, Deciphering Dressage and the best one in Buckoff Banter.

While my podcast is quite different to these, they did all push me on to give it a go myself.

Poo picking while listening to podcasts!

The Creation

So to set it all up I researched thoroughly, I pretty much listened to the entire back catalogue of Podcraft from the Podcast Host. I also followed their email course. This helped me to feel that it was achievable. I did not want to put a lot of time and money into something that was going to flop.

Creating this website has helped me hugely to give new computer techniques a go. After listening to Podcraft and also branching out into a few other podcasts to see what I like, I then started to buy the gear.

A few boxes later from Amazon, I had my set up ready. I also had the software downloaded. Ready to start, but before I started I needed a name for the Podcast. I had a few ideas, but nothing solid. So I went to my friends, the ones I worked with over the years and who understood the concept. I could have put it to the general public but I wanted something summed it up. As well as the right name, it needed to be something that had not been used before and that was actually the hard bit.

After that, I had to design the cover art. Here my new found skills in Canva came in use. Another item of software that I have had to got to grips with over the last year. I could have paid someone to do it but I feel doing it all myself makes it more authentic.

The Launch

And here we are launch day for the Only Foals and Racehorses Podcast. There are three episodes and the trailer live on all podcast platforms. So whether you listen on iTunes or Spotify, Deezer or Amazon Music and all the others, it is there ready. You can access them on this website too – here.

The podcast is my take on 20 years in the Thoroughbred Industry. I started off with no experience or family ties so it was not easy. It’s both funny and sad. I really wanted to document my experiences and it’s actually proving to be really quite theraputic.

I am still very much practicing, I think it is getting better each episode. My editing skills are certainly improving. That is a whole new skill. I never realised how many ‘errms’ I did! I have worked out now how to remove those so after Episode 2, it runs a lot smoother.

What Next?

So my little ask of you all, is give it a listen, hit follow/subscribe, tell you friends. ‘Pass the Pod’ as Crouchy would say. Reviews on iTunes are super helpful but even just taking a screenshot and popping it on your stories on Facebook or Instagram and tagging me, would be amazing. I really want to this to take off.

I have split the whole project into series and overall there are currently 5 series of about 7-10 episodes each. Between each series I will take a break for a month or so, I might do Q and A’s during this time. Currently there are no plans, just to see how it goes. Hosting a podcast does cost money so I am monitoring it closely and it is why I have the little link for donations on Buy Me A Coffee for those that want to help out the cause.

Fingers crossed its a hit and someone enjoys it as much as I do making it! There is a new episode every Thursdays for the rest of the Series.
